Professor Pratt has been a leading figure in physical activity and public health over the last three decades. He is the Director of the Institute for Public Health and the Founding Director of the MPH program at the University of California San Diego. He is also the Chair of the Global Observatory for Physical Activity (GoPA!). Previously he was the Founding Chief of the Physical Activity and Health Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Founding Director of the CDC World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Physical Activity and Health and of the International Physical Activity and Public Health courses.

While at CDC he was an early member of the IPEN network and the original PI for IPEN Mexico before passing leadership on to his then PhD student Deborah Salvo. Professor Pratt spent the 2022/2023 academic year as a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar at Palacky University in the Czech Republic. Dr. Pratt’s research interests include increasing global research capacity for physical activity, physical activity policy development and implementation, and evidence-based public health.
